The Week 8 Edition
of
Oh yeah, it's that time once again for Dro's Corner, brought to you by AutoZone! Sorry for the little delay, but we are up and running for another week! Let's take a look back at Week 8!of
General Thoughts of Week 8
Good Ole Western Shootout? - The San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks combined for 95 points in their game, with the Seahawks coming out on top 50-45. Both offenses seemed to be on fire in this game. Niners QB Mark Sanchez threw for 413 yards and 5 TDs (2 INTs) on 59% passing, while Seahawks HB Shonn Green has his best performance of the season by far as he gained 164 yards and 4 TDs on 33 carries. The Niners ended the game with 3 WRs over the century mark, which exemplifies the type of day it was in Seattle. Both teams played an awesome game, and if you're a fan of offense, I'm pretty sure you thought it was awesome too.Motown Meltdown? - The Detroit Lions played 3 quarters of good football in their game against the Bengals this past week. But, as we all know, a game is 4 quarters. The Bengals, who were down 23-10 going into the 4th, pulled out a 24-point 4th quarter to defeat the Lions 34-23. And the interesting fact is, they did it with defense. 14 of the 24 4th quarter points resulted from defensive scores, with INT and fumble recovery TDs. Not only that, but the Bengals defense held the Lions to 0 points in the 4th. This one will probably haunt the Lions, but they can't dwell on this loss as they are still in the race for the NFC North Title. The Bengals, on the other hand, move to 5-2 (#2 in the AFC North).
The 2-QB System? - Looks like the Bills are establishing a new scheme up there in Buffalo... the 2-QB system. The Bills played both Levi Brown and Kenneth Quigley in their game against the Buccaneers, and it lead to a 36-13 victory. Taking advantage of the strengths each QB, Coach Sway was able to keep the Tampa Bay defense on their toes. While Levi struggled on the day, Quigley was able to pick up the slack, going 4/4 190 yards and 1 TD. Combine that with 120 yards and 3 TDs rushing from Spiller, and you've got yourself a winning formula. I wonder if the 2-QB System will be picked up by other teams in the UFL? Only time will tell.
Shutout in Big D? - The Cowboys played awesome defense in their game against the Redskins, holding their opponets to 212 total yards of offense and 0 points. As a matter of fact, both teams played great defense. But the difference? 1. Dallas won the turnover ratio, 1 to 3; 2. Dallas won the TOP battle, 24:05 to 12:55. This is exactly the type of tenacity the Cowboys need on defense if they want to ease up in the NFC East.
A Pair Separates Broncos/Eagles? - A pair of points that is, as the Broncos were able to edge the Eagles in Philly 22-20, in a game that's sits up there with the Niners/Hawks showdown. Tim Tebow lead the way for the Broncos, going 13/20 for 200 yards and 2 TDs. Kevin Kolb didn't have a bad game either, as he went 11/20 for 186 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT for the Eagles. With the Eagles falling just short, they drop to 4-3, but they are very much still in the race for the divisional title. The Broncos move to 6-1, (#1 in the AFC West) as they continue to build on what so far has been a great season.
