The Week 1 Edition
of
Dro's Corner is back for another season! One can only wonder what kind of great games and moments we might season here in Season 5. So without further ado, it's time to kickoff the 1st edition of the 2014-15 UFL year!of
Top Topics for Week 1
Chiefs Play Heartbreaker? - The Kansas City Chiefs, who had Sway sub as head coach this week, were able to defeat the Denver Broncos 30-27 in a thrilling game. As great as the game was through out, it only got more interesting at the end. In what would have potentially been a game winning score on 4th and 2, Denver QB Tim Tebow would toss the ball in the direction of an open Chris Johnson (at least we thought) only to have LB Gary Guyton cross the field, chase down the ball, and bat it down to secure a win for the Chiefs. Definitely a heartbreaker for the Broncos.
Hawks Primed For a Repeat? - It's probably a little early to be talking about a championship repeat, but with the way the Seattle Seahawks opened the season you almost can't help it. The Hawks did not skip a beat in their game against the St. Louis Rams. Seattle's newly acquired QB Jamarcus Austin put in a stellar performance, completing 16 of 20 passes for 435 Yards and 4 TDs (2 INTs). Deon Butler and Steve Smith helped Austin out mightily, combining for 356 yards and 3 TDs (Butler, 209-3; Smith, 147-0). If Seattle continues to play like this, there's no doubt that they can repeat this season.
Manning Bowl Showdown? - It's always interesting to see brothers Peyton and Eli Manning battle head to head in the UFL. This time, little brother was able to come away with the victory. The Giants dominated the time of possession battle 32:49 to 10:58, but the Colts were able to stay in the game with some quick scores. Tied at 20, the Giants would hit a FG with 7 minutes left in the game, which ultimately became the game winner. Although this game is usually centered around the Manning brothers, Giants rookie RB Gary Robinson made his presence know with 173 yards and a TD on 22 carries. The Colts played a great game, but the time of possession difference proved to be a little too much for them to overcome.
New Coach, Same Results? - The Baltimore Ravens seemed to be another team that didn't miss a beat. Last season's AFC Champions have new coach in Thunder after former head coach ShamelessAnt decided to take on the Detroit Lions job. Things on the field didn't change though, as a 13-0 halftime lead over the Tennessee Titans turned into a 37-10 beatdown. Vince Young's return to Tennessee was not a good one, as he was pressured all day and suffered 8 sacks from the Ravens defense. Joe Flacco made some big throws, while Ray Rice engineered a very solid rushing attack. It's early, but if the Ravens can keep this formula they have a good chance of making another UFL Bowl appearance.

Mr. Gibson played no games in a 20-17 losing effort to the Bengals. He was all over the field with 11 tackles. Although Gibson's main goal was to get a win for his team, I think the Defender of the Week will cheer him up a little.Thaddeus Gibson - PIT
