Giants Get Tough OT Win Against Colts, 23-20
Indianapolis, IN (AP) - The Giants made the trip to Indy knowing that they would have their work cut out for them. Brotherly love aside, the Manning bros. came prepared play. The Giants had one gameplan in mind; that was to limit the deep ball and to keep Peyton Manning off the field. The Giants did just that grinding the ball on the ground for 184 total yards versus the Colts 33; maintaining possession of the ball 3x greater than the Colts (32:49 vs 10:58).
The Giants won the toss and elected to receive. They got on the board first as E.Manning would connect with V.Clarke on a 10 yard quick strike over the middle (7-0 Giants; 3:52 first qtr).
The Colts would respond with 13 unanswered points in the 2nd qtr. P.Manning put up a floater under pressure and the amazing D.Clark came down with the 48 yard reception stumbling his way through the Giants 2ndary for a TD. The score was 10-7 in favor fo the Colts at the 5 min mark of the 2nd qtr following this play...
The Colts added three more before time expired in the first half and found themselves with a 13-7 lead at halftime. Prepared to receive in the 2nd half, the Colts were poised to increase their lead. P.Manning came out gunning for D.Clark immediately. Giants LB T.Dimry had other intentions as he laid back in the cut to take away the pass intended for the Colts TE.
The INT led to three points for the Giants, closing the gap to 13-10 with just over 2 mins remaining in the third qtr. The Giants would overtake the Colts at the 5:45 mark in the 4th qtr following a 4 yard TD run by rookie G.Robinson, the first of his young UFL career; 17-13 Giants.
On the Colts ensuing possession, veteran CB B.Johnson took away another pass intended for D.Clark giving the Giants the ball back at midfield with just over 5:00 remaining.
The INT led to another A.Kahler FG to increase the Giants lead to 20-13 with 2:26 remaining. P.Manning and the Colts offense would respond as R.Wayne came down with his 8th reception of the game to knot things up at 20 with :49 remaining on the clock.
Time would eventually expire on both teams and the game went into OT. The Giants won the toss once again and elected to receive. Just when it appeared that the Giants would stall at midfield on 3rd and 13, E.Manning hit rookie J.Ward for an amazing 27 yard reception over the middle.
Ward was injured on the play, however, he wouldn't be needed as HB G.Robinson took the rock all the way to the 1 yard line on the next play from scrimmage.
Rather than taking the chance of fumbling the ball, the Giants elected to kick the chip shot FG for the win; 23-20!
This game was attempted twice as we disconnected at the intermission before the 4th qtr on our original attempt. The first game was just as close, so we both agreed to replay. Thanks for the great game, MIM. GL with the rest of your season.
