Maulin' in N'Orleans: Saints beat Bears, Defense Needs Work New Orleans, LA
The Saints came into this week's contest against the suddenly hot Chicago Bears needing a win to stay in the picture in the tight NFC playoff race. After looking at all the stats on the Bears side, it was determined that we would key on the run and make Jay Cutler beat us. Little did we know, the quick Umpa Lumpa for the Bears, Darren Sproles would almost be our downfall.
Sproles started the game by breaking tackle after tackle, eventually running over FS Dorian Hill and taking the rock into the endzone from 39 yards out. The Saints answered right back with a kick return for a TD by the X factor Reggie Bush. Sproles continued his annoying tackle breaking ability by rumbling, bumbling, and stumbling into the endzone once again, this time from 64 yards out to take the lead again. VY marched the Saints right back down the field and hit Lance Moore across the middle, who broke a few tackles of his own, from 26 yards out and tied the game up once again. On the next drive, Steven Fineview forced a Jay Cutler fumble and Sedrick Ellis ran it in from 41 yards out to take the lead 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began with the Bears marching down the field but the Saints defense actually decided to play this drive and they forced a 24 yard FG from Robbie Gould. After a punt by the Saints, Darren Sproles went crazy again and scored from 24 yards out to regain the lead for the Bears. VY lead an efficient drive that was capped off by a Reggie bush rushing TD from 11 yards out. The first half ended with the Saints up 28-24.
The third quarter began and it looked as though both teams' defense stepped up their game until Jonathan Stewart broke off a run of 15 yards to extend the Saints lead to 11. After another Robbie Gould FG, Reggie Bush took the kickoff to the house for the second time in the game. At the end of the third quarter, the Saints we up 42-27.
The Bears started the final quarter on fire on both sides of the ball. Their first drive ended with a Jay Cutler TD pass to WR Tavares Saint from 28 yards out. After another punt, Tavares Saint scored again from 16 yards out to bring the lead down to 2. Jay Cutler went for it on 4th down, only to throw a reception short of the endzone. On the ensuing possession, Jonathan Stewart sealed the win with a 72 yard TD run. After a Jay Cutler INT, Garrett Hartley kicked an FG and the game was over.
Great game Frank!
