UFL 2013-14 Rookie Draft Preview...
Player Profile
Name - Micah Goode
College - Illinois
Size - 6'4' 270lbs
Position - DE
Projected - Top 5 pick
Micah Goode is by far the best defensive lineman available in this draft. Personally, I have him rated as my #1 Defensive Player in the draft, with FS Carlos Bailey a close 2nd. This guy is the prototypical 4-3 Speed Rushing Defensive End. He can be best described as a combination of Dwight Freeney and Mario Williams, only faster. I have honestly, never seen a DE as fast as Goode in all my years of covering the NFL Draft. Many of the UFL pro personnel and decision makers are salivating at the chance to draft this guy. He is a player who certainly fits the mold of the "new age" pass rushers. Speed, Power, Explosiveness. This guy has it all. To top it all off, he even has the ability to get off blocks and stuff the run which is something that makes him an every down Defensive End that you can build a defense around.
Analysis
Pass rush: Combines explosion out of his stance and pure upper-body strength to overwhelm most college right tackles. Has a great ability to senses bootlegs to his side of the field, keeps great outside leverage and sheds his block quickly before chasing down the quarterback. Great versatility and can line up on either side of the line. Has one of the quickest first steps I have ever seen and is a elite edge rusher. Has the strength to bull rush the Offensive Tackle as well as the speed and quickness to blow by him.
Run defense: Ready-made strong-side NFL defensive end because of his strength as a run-stopper. Uses thick upper body, quickness and awareness, and leverage to keep containment on the edge, and sheds most tackles easily. Stays square to the line of scrimmage and shows good awareness throughout the play. Competes, chasing to either sideline. Takes on multiple blockers, (tackles, pulling guards and fullbacks) as they come with violent hands so he can hold his ground.
Explosion: Like I said before, he is one of the most explosive Defensive Ends to come out of the draft in recent memory. Only real question is his lack of NFL DE Technique as he has been getting by on his pure freakish athletisism since High School.
Strength: Already looks like an NFL Defensive End, pushing some tackles into the backfield with one arm, and will only grow stronger over the next couple of years in a pro strength and conditioning program. More developed in the upper body than the lower body, but plays with excellent leverage against bigger linemen. Strong hands to shed on the outside.
Tackling: Combines NFL-quality strength and length to provide explosive tackling on the edge. Most ballcarriers find it difficult to evade him once in his grasp. Closing speed and strong wrap give him the capability of forcing fumbles on sacks or against ballcarriers in the open field.
Final Verdict: If it weren't for WR Julian Watson, this guy would be the clear cut #1 pick in the upcoming rookie draft. He's that good. No pun intended. He is a Franchise Defensive End that every opposing team will fear for the next 10 years. You simply can't block this guy one on one, you need to have help from a TE, HB or Gaurd to slow him down. He is going to give OC's headaches trying to figure out how to slow him down.
