From what I'm reading, 3 year plans never really go as planned... As someone posted on Pastapadre, this appears to be what we can look forward to...
Year 1 (12) - 1st year of a three year plan the game is going to be pretty much unchanged from the previous year, while releasing small bits of information to try and suck you in to get you to buy in year 2.
Year 2 (13) - will be slightly better but still lack the excitement and features that year 3 will promise and advertise.
Year 3 (14) - will try and combine the 2 previous years additions and make a solid game.
My only issue is this... I'm going to do some compare and contrast here...
MLB The Show and NBA 2k are widely considered to be the best video games of their respective sports. 2k has even garnered several game of the year votes. For the most part, these games don't change a ton of things from year to year. This year 2k added the Michael Jordan stuff, but the game itself and its foundation has pretty much stayed the same and has just been tweaked over the years...
The main difference I see with these 2 games and Madden is that both games (The Show and NBA 2k) are built around GAMEPLAY!!! They REPRESENT the real sport well. Are they perfect? No. No game will ever be perfect. However, these 2 sports games do a fantastic job at putting the gamer in a situation that they can relate to as sports fans.
In Madden we don't get that. The core of this game is flawed. Its built around David Tyree Super Bowl Catches and hit stick tackles rather than core Football Fundamentals of Running, Catching, Blocking and Tackling. They have geared their entire marketing plan around getting those "fridge" sports fans that just wanna play with their favorite players and throw for 600yds and 7 touchdowns with no real care about playing a realistic style of football. They did this same thing with the NBA Live Series where you would have any and all players pulling off dribble and dunk moves that they had no business doing... In my opinion this is why its very hard for players like us to "accept" Madden as SIM. I don't see it changing for Madden 12, for the sole reason that we don't have a choice.
