My stance on the celebrations that occured after the announcement of Bin Laden's death: Initially watching the celebrations, I was indifferent to what I was seeing. After a few hours and dwelling on it, the fact that there were individuals celebrating as if their favorite football team won the Super Bowl, or scenes that were reminiscent of the celebrations in England following the Royal Wedding, I admit I was, and still am disgusted by the celebrations. We are not an oppressed society so to celebrate an individuals death reminiscent of the celebrations that occured in Egypt's Tahrir Square is classless. I want to make clear Iabsolutely do not condone the actions of Osama Bin Laden nor Al Queda. We, as a country, have to be the set the high standard and be respectful, despite being disrespected. We have to be classy. I completely support President Barack Obama's choice not to release photographs of Osama Bin Laden.

I really stirred up a hornets nest with this topic I am sure, however I feel this league has a really good group of individuals, and on that note thougts and opinions are most welcome. In the absence of the UFL 2 due to the Playstation Network being down, this may add some new life to these boards.

    Thank you for reading.

I echo your thoughts. Perhaps they could expound their jubilation in a more productive manner that would benefit society. Particularly since we may have won this 10-year battle, but by no means is the war against terrorism over. I'm afraid we may have awakened the dragon...

Pretty much the same stance as Sway. Didn't celebrate, but I feel it was good news.

Like Sway, I was happy to hear of Osama's death. I did not celebrate it, or high five my buddies like my team had just won the Super Bowl, but, I was happy. I have zero remorse for him, his family and any of his followers that are feeling grief because of his death.

However, It was kind of weird seeing hords of people celebrate like that. It kind of reminded me of how "they" celebrate when they capture one of our soldiers. Waving their flags and shooting guns off into the air... I agree we, as a society, need to be "better" than that. We don't need to lower ourselves to their level... However, I think peoples raw emotion just got the best of them in that situation. Never before in our history has one person been at the root of so many of our problems and I think some of the peoples feelings on the subject kind of boiled over.

On the same topic sorta... How about the idiot Steelers player who basically incinuated that our government was behind the attacks of 9/11???

"how does a plane take down a skyscrapper demolition style?"

I didn't hear anyone in the media that picked up on this but, its clear to me that he is alledging that "someone" else was actually behind the attacks and that Osama was just the fall guy...

Is that guy serious??? I've read all the conspiricy theories, and all that stuff, but to publicly say something like that via twitter clearly shows how ignorant this guy is haha.

Honestly, twitter and other social media is only serving to make athletes appear even dumber than they already are.

In terms of the topic, I like what Obama said, I mean, we understand that the man is the epitome of pure evil and a certain amount of jubilation can be expected. But celebrating like your team won the Super Bowl?

Obama used a similar metaphor when he announced he was not going to release photos of the corpse. “There’s no need to spike the football,”

    Agreed.

+1. I have tended to steer clear of this topic as a whole when asked about how i feel, but glad to see that people did think that the celebrating was a bit much.

I agree with Sway, he was responsible with over 3,000 deaths on 9/11, and even more with the other attacks he was responsible for. This world is definitely alot better place without him.

I'm happy he's dead but is he really dead? or has been dead?

His death just happened to occur on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and at the end of Obama's term..

I think he's dead or hope he's dead but I'll truly believing it until I see pictures of Osama death.

I'm pretty sure he's dead, Al Qaeda came out today and stated that he in fact was killed in that raid...but, with no pictures of it people still have a right to question the legitimacy of the news.

Oh please no conspiracy theorists. I wouldn't put it past Al Queda to scoop his body up and parade him around like Weekend at Bernies...(yeah I know they confirmed his death...lol)

In all seriousness, I did not celebrate whatsoever at the news of his demise. I feel no remorse for the man. He was a tyrant and a mass murderer and many, many people can sleep a little sounder from now until the next one comes along, and unfortunately there will be. Too many people hide behind the cloak of religion to promote their ideals.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but when I heard he was dead I popped a few brews and listened to "Proud to Be An American" on repeat for an hour.

I am glad though that Obama chose to not release the photographs of Bin Laden, that would have been too much IMO

I'm indifferent. He was certainly public enemy number one and devastated the United States but I personally didn't "celebrate" his death. I'm glad he's gone and with a whole heart feel he got what he deserved and then some but in that same breath celebrating in what seems to be over the top fashion with some can only lead to bad things. It's not like people aren't watching and the insurgency/terrorist regime is still very much alive. I'd say this MLK quote says it best.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that" - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Indifferent for me, while it's definitely a good thing that he's dead and can't do any more harm to anyone, I did find the over the top celebrating of his death to be a little much. Guy got what he deserved, simple as that.
